Transportation Accessibility Survey

 Dear Community members,

We are reaching out to ask for your support in sharing a first of several survey ‘s about barriers to transportation experienced by persons with disabilities across Canada.

This survey is part of a national research project funded by Accessible Standards Canada and led by the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD). The project aims to better understand the barriers that persons with disabilities encounter when using federally regulated transportation services and to ensure that the experiences and priorities of the disability community help inform future accessibility standards and improvements.

A key strength of this project is that it is grounded in the disability community. The research is being conducted by and with persons with disabilities and community run organizations, with a commitment to ensuring that community voices guide the findings and recommendations. We want to hear directly from those who experience transportation barriers and good practices in their daily lives and ensure that their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives are reflected in future accessibility efforts.

The purpose of the survey is to better understand the experiences of persons with disabilities when using federally regulated transportation services in Canada. This includes services such as air travel, passenger rail services, interprovincial bus and ferry services and any transportation services that cross provincial or territorial boundaries that is regulated by the Federal Government, Canadian Transportation Agency.

Participants are invited to share both barriers and good practice experiences, including challenges they may have encountered when planning, booking, accessing, or using transportation services.

The information collected through this survey will help identify barriers, highlight promising practices, and support recommendations for improving accessibility within Canada’s transportation system and to develop further surveys that go deeper into the issues. By participating, individuals will help ensure that accessibility standards are informed by the real experiences of people and communities across the country.

Participation in the survey is voluntary. Responses will be kept confidential. No personally identifying information will be included in reports or publications without consent.

We would greatly appreciate your assistance in sharing this survey through your newsletters, social media channels, email lists, and other communication networks. Broad participation will help ensure that the experiences of persons with disabilities from diverse communities, regions, and backgrounds are represented.
